Last February 24, 2016 the Justice Palma Foundation, together with its partners, The Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse (CPTCSA) and Action against Violence and Exploitation, Inc. (ACTVE), held a round table discussion (RTD) with family court judges and their court social workers to promote the “Kids and Teens Court Awareness Program” (KTCAP). There were 17 attendees composed of staff and judges from the QC family courts, the Office of the QC Chief Prosecutor, and one representative from DSWD that joined the RTD.
The KTCAP is an intervention program designed to prepare children and their parents or guardians face the court or justice system. The program minimizes the fear of the court and encourages child victims and witnesses to stand by the truth, speak against their offender by providing them knowledge about the court/justice system.
Held at the Foundation office, the RTD started at 1:30 pm. The welcome remark was given by Emily Palma. She was followed by Zenaida Rosales, Executive Director of CPTCSA, who together with Jeny Cueva, CPTCSA’s social worker, presented the KTCAP and its workbook. Notably, Ret. QC Judge Rosalina Pison gave her testimony of support for the KTCAP. In the wrapping up of the RTD, the family court judges and the court social workers showed their support to the program. It was suggested that the KTCAP should start in April where the morning session will take place at the office of the Foundation and the afternoon session will be an exposure trip at the QC courts.
