Empowering School Leaders to Build Safer, More Child-Friendly Communities
Following its successful seminar-workshop on “Crafting a Child Protection Policy” held at Los Baños Faith Christian School, Inc. (LBFCSI) on June 2, 2026, the Laguna Province Private Schools and Administrators Association (LAPPRISADA) LB Sub-Chapter continued its commitment to child protection through a Court Awareness Orientation during its 5th General Assembly on September 24, 2026.
The orientation was facilitated by Ms. Maribeth R. Baril, Executive Director of the Justice Cecilia Muñoz-Palma Foundation (JCMPF), at Los Baños Adventist Elementary School, Inc., in Bangkal, Barangay San Antonio. Representatives from 15 active member schools participated in the assembly, bringing together school leaders united by a shared commitment to the safety, welfare, and protection of children.

Strengthening Unity and Collaboration Among Private Schools
Operating under the LAPPRISADA Capitol Chapter, the LB Sub-Chapter seeks to bring together private schools in Los Baños, advocate for the rights and welfare of schools and their stakeholders, promote institutional development and financial stability, and foster unity, cooperation, and camaraderie among its member schools and partners.
The Court Awareness Orientation complemented these objectives by equipping school administrators with essential knowledge and practical insights on children’s rights, child protection, and the justice system.

Understanding Children’s Rights and the Justice System
During the one-hour session, Ms. Baril introduced the fundamental concepts of court awareness and discussed their relevance to the Department of Education’s Child Protection Policy.
She highlighted children’s fundamental rights and discussed relevant Philippine laws that school administrators should be familiar with as they carry out their responsibilities toward the safety, welfare, and protection of learners.
The discussion emphasized that protecting children goes beyond having policies in place. It also requires awareness, preparedness, and the ability to respond appropriately when children encounter situations that may threaten their safety, dignity, and well-being.

Making Justice Less Intimidating Through KTCAP
The focus of the presentation was the Kids and Teens Court Awareness Program (KTCAP), a child-centered initiative of JCMPF designed to help young victims and witnesses of abuse and exploitation understand the justice process and prepare for possible court appearances.
Ms. Baril explained how KTCAP helps make the court experience less intimidating and more understandable for children, while supporting their fundamental right to be heard.
She also emphasized the importance of encouraging children to seek help from trusted adults whenever they experience or encounter situations that compromise their safety, dignity, and well-being.
For school administrators, this underscored the vital role that educators and school communities play in creating safe environments where children feel supported, protected, and empowered to speak up.

Bringing the Courtroom Experience Closer to Educators
One of the presentation’s engaging segments featured photographs of actual Family Court facilities from different parts of the Philippines, giving participants a glimpse of the environments children may encounter when involved in legal proceedings.
The visual presentation helped school administrators better understand courtroom settings and provided a meaningful connection between child protection policies in schools and the realities of the justice system.
By becoming more familiar with court environments, procedures, and child-sensitive practices, educators can better appreciate the importance of providing appropriate support to children who may eventually participate in legal proceedings.

Positive Reception and Opportunities for Future Partnerships
The orientation received positive feedback from participating school administrators, who expressed appreciation for learning more about court awareness and the availability of KTCAP services for children who may need court awareness and preparation.
The session also opened opportunities for stronger collaboration between JCMPF and LAPPRISADA member schools, including the possible integration of Court Awareness Orientations into Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings and teacher development activities.
Such initiatives could extend child protection advocacy beyond school administrators by bringing essential knowledge and awareness directly to teachers, parents, and other adults who play important roles in the lives of children.
Together for Safer, More Child-Friendly School Communities
The successful orientation demonstrated how collaboration among educational institutions and child-protection advocates can strengthen the shared responsibility of protecting children.
Through initiatives such as KTCAP, LAPPRISADA LB Sub-Chapter and its partner organizations continue to promote a culture of awareness, compassion, and preparedness—helping school communities become better equipped to recognize children’s rights, respond appropriately to their needs, and support their journey toward safety and justice.
Protecting children is not the responsibility of schools alone. It is a shared commitment that begins with awareness, grows through collaboration, and finds its purpose in every child’s right to be safe, protected, and heard.
